Victoria Harrison, FRSA
Victoria Harrison is a London-based artist visualising the beauty captured by the delicate balance of nature and humanity.
Harrison’s diverse art practice experiments with various media and techniques evolving into pure abstraction, with an intuitive feel for colour and light. She is fascinated by transformational processes, taking enjoyment in the freedom of exploring the potential of her materials.
Over the past two decades, Harrison developed her artistic career investigating new narratives and processes. These include collage, gilding, spray-painting, colour-play and more recently up-cycling. The changing histories of objects and repurposing of otherwise discarded things, which are given new life to be valued and loved afresh through rediscovered beauty.
Interested in the creative metamorphosis that occurs when she paints an object, crops an image or mixes materials, Harrison sees beyond the quotidian nature of an artefact to imagine new ways to reclaim it into an artwork. In this way, a new material aesthetic arises from innovative transformations. Her practice breaks down preconceived ideas about what art is, the nature of beauty, and what constitutes value.
Confronting themes of our consumerist and wasteful society practically, the paintings and sculptures hold a resourcefulness that is cheerful and celebratory, sometimes connecting to personal biography as hinted at through her captions. Her work is also reflective around the meaning and execution of creativity, inviting the viewer to participate in her playful, experimental and inventive art.
Harrison has exhibited in the UK, Spain and the USA and her art published in books and catalogues. Her works are held in private and corporate collections in the UK and USA.
